What's a good, cheap guitar tuner?

If I can get a decent one without leaving my chair that'll be great 😛

$10-$20 is how I define cheap 🙂

I like the Korg tuners. There's the GA-30 for $15

edit: There's a Musician's Friend brand for only $9.99. I'd go with that

Your ear? That's how I used to tune mine. But maybe that's why I'm not a rock star? 😱

Didn't there used to be a computer program that would play the right notes? I remember one for DOS and one for the C= 64 (of course, SID chips could be more accurate because there weren't sound chip competitors...)

I know plenty of ways to tune it through my computer, but I'd rather have a portable one when I'm away 🙂

I think I might just get the Korg GT-30.

Edit: Sweet, it uses AAA batteries too! I have quite a few stashed 😀

I used to use the audiophonics one, but then I got lazy and didn't want to unplug/replug/unplug/replug my guitar in, so I just use a midi keyboard for the low E and do the rest by ear.

I have a Sabine Metrotune MT9000 that I paid $30 for. It has a few more features than the Korg GA-30, but for $15 the Korg seems fine.

I have a fender ST-1 tuner. You can pick them up for around $25, and it's great because it recognizes sharps/flats so it makes tuning down a half step a breeze. The mic on it works well enough that I don't have to plug into it to get an accurate tuning, and I've had it for over 3 years now and haven't had to change the battery at all (and I change tunings a lot).

Get the Korg Chromatic (CA-30) tuner for $20. Don't waste you money on a non-chromatic tuner (GA-30), even if you don't think you will need it because you will one day.

I bought the GA-30 when I started then ended up getting the CA-30 because I was playing a lot of alt-tuning. It's also good to practice scales with because you can see the notes you are hitting.

i have a cheapo korg that has been reliable and is easy on batteries. but my bassist has a fender tuner which we agree is much easier to use and is more versatile because it's chromatic instead of just the standard guitar notes.

Tuning fork: ~US$3.50. No batteries required, always in pitch, very portable.

Dial tone: ~ A / 440. No batteries or power cubes required ...

Wow! I had no idea...guess I wasn't paying too much attention.

Thing with tuning forks is you have to baby them. If they get dropped, bent, warped, etc, then they go out of pitch.

i have a korg. it's fast, cheap, works well acoustically (using the built in mic) and can meter pitches even below the B-string on my bass, which many tuners have difficulty doing.
