i just picked up my 2.4C P4 and board and everything runs great, fast and stable.
Now i plan to try to overclock it soon. But i never like to overclock right out of the box.
I like to give it time to break in and get settled :)
What's a good length of time to allow for?

Also, is my cpu a good stepping? It a 2.4C Retail boxed, Costa Rica, SL6WF

Thanks! :)

Zero minutes...

As soon as everything works things will only get worse, not better from "burn-in"

But I'm sure someone will disagree shortly.

The only thing you would be "burning in" would be the thermal grease. I'd give it 24-48 hours if you really want to wait for it to settle. As long as your temps seem ok, feel free to give it the spurs.

You don't need any burn-in at all...it's all absolute rubbish

Even the thermal grease don't really need any kinda burn-in period.. you'll observe at most 1-2 deg C decrease in temps..or hardly at all..

You can check what kind of rating it has.

Intel have a new system. They rate how good the CPU is by volt rating them. Mine is 1.55V. Its the same stepping as yours but Malay.

1.55V is not good. Its the worst. It goes all the way down to 1.475.

I'm not sure if all 2.4C:s are 1.55.
If there is a 1.475 2.4C CPU I dont know?

Check it with SiSoft Sandra. Under CPU and bios info.
