What's a good backup software????

Is Norton Ghost anygood? My frient wants to pick up a copy of SystemWorks, if he gets the Prof. version it comes with Ghost.

Just wondering ...

What does Backup Exec and Novastor do that PQ DriveImage 4 doesn't?

I'm currently running 98se but thinking (still) of going to 2k. I'm running PQ DI4 currently and i'm happy with it. The only thing I truly wish for is the ability to do incremental backups. That is: the ability for a program to analyze your master backup copy and determine what has changed and then make a modern current backup. Either in addition or subtraction of data.

I dont know about those others, but I use novastor because it lets me backup to my DLT drive in win9x. Most of the others mentioned here are for cdr-cdrw drives. I dont know about you, but I have 150gigs of data that I back up regularly and I dont feel like backing all that up to over 200 cds. 🙂 Just a couple of DLT tapes and I am set. Also, with novastor, you could make a bootdisk. This way, even if ALL is lost, you can boot with this special disc and restore everything from tape (if thats the medium you use, if not, then disregard all🙂 ).

Ghost is so easy and really flexible. You can ghost to just about anything, even over a network and it is great if you upgrade your harddrive 🙂

By backup, do you mean having extra copy of your data? Doesn't Ghost make an image of your hard drive? So, say if you only wanted to retrieve a folder from you backed up data, you wouldn't be able to do that with Ghost because you'll have to reload the whole partition.
I know at least tape back up drives you can retrieve selected data. Any thoughts?

Ghost isn´t really a backup app AFAIK, it restores partitions, but that´s not the same thing. If you´d only want to backup files that have been added or modified for example you´d need a "real" backup app.

I have Systemworks Pro with Norton Ghost and it works great. Compression is pretty good and I made myself a bootable cd for when I screw up.🙂
