whats a good affordable vacuum that picks up hair off carpet

Any $60 Hoover ought to be fine. It'll be noisy as hell, and won't have much in the way of features, but it'll get the job done.

Hit a yardsale and get a hoover for around $5. My last one was actually $2 and works great once I put a new belt on it.

Most vacuums will pick up hair just fine.

The problem is that most people let it build up until the brush stops moving and the belt breaks.

A Kirby, is built to last, and they clean damn good too. They cost a premium, however. Next, I would consider a Filter-Queen, followed by a Rainbow. All of those will cost you about a grand.

Hoover, Eureka, etc can be bought cheap, but you'll buy lots of them over a lifetime, whereas, you might only buy one of the premium machines in a lifetime, if you take care of it.
