I would go with a Matrox G400 or an ATI Radeon 32MB if you want to spend around $100 - $150. If you want to spend less, an older ATI Rage128 chipset card such as the Expert 2000 will do just fine for around $50. Just make sure it's at least 32MB and any ATI or Matrox will give you excellent 2D.

matrox g200 or a productive g100 if thats all she's gonna do. ati rage pro , ati rage128 cards as well. I doubt she wants to pay more than she needs to. All those cards have great 2d. you could even get away with using a matrox millenium II

Matrox! Our G100 is the perfect card for photo editing, surfing the net, and other general use functions.

Rage Pro - not, Rage XL - yes. From my experience on a 17" monitor, the Rage XL (current XPERT 98 should have this) has about the same 2D quality as the G200, while the Rage Pro is inferior.
