What's a good 17 inch LCD brand? Mid range priced?

Trying to help a friend find a good brand on a decent (not the best) LCD monitor. She doesn't do games, so responce time isn't key here. Is Viewsonic still the best?

i would consider samsung on top, then dell and viewsonic. i think viewsonic has a contract with dell on lcds. dells dont really make lcd monitors. instead, they contract with viewsonic or so to make an lcd with the dell brand on them. the 2001fp is the same as viewsonic's 20.1inch and the 17" ones are the same too. i'm not too great wtih lcd pricings, so can u tell me what your definition of midranged is? my guess is $550ish?

$550-700 would be a good midrange price I'd say

Another vote for Samsung. Just got the 712N and I am LOVIN it.

Forgot to say that it was only ~375 after rebates at BB.

The price differential between an excellent and a poor quality LCD is very small. Spend the extra 10% and get your self a Samsung.

I wouldn't exactly call that midrange. A good 16ms Sony 17" is $450. For $550 you can get a nice 19".

No, Viewsonic has never been the "best" IMHO. I have used and sold dozens of the BenQ FP731's, and they are a top notch LCD with excellent image quality. The have a built in power supply and a thin bezel. Ghosting is minimal for the 25ms panel, and IMHO it's close to the FP767 16ms panel in terms of raw performance. The only downside is no DVI port. Newegg has them for $380

Is ms the responce time? I take it lower is better? So for gaming purposes you'd want a lower ms then? I believe we will shoot for the samsung.

Hitachi makes a decent screen too.
