ok, my cousin needs a new pc. She will only use it for e-mail, IM, and MP3s. One of my friends has a 733mhz PIII, with 128MB ram, a DVD drive, 8x burner, Geforce DDR 32 MB card, Lan card, modem, and a 16 gig HD (don't know if its 54 or 72 but for my cousin, this doesn't matter). What is a fair price for both of us (seller and buyer)? Thanks in advance.

If your cousin can wait Dell should have another of these $599 systems in a few weeks.

Dell Dimension 4500

P4 2.23 GHz
128MB RAM
40GB HD
24x CD-RW (instead of 16x DVD-ROM)
Windows XP Home
MS Works 2002

I know it's overkill when she wants a P3/733 but it's a damn good price with an excellent warranty.

I'd personally say about $200-$225 without a monitor. If her needs are really that basic, that should be more than adequate (maybe a bit more memory wouldn't hurt if she's running 2000/XP)

That seems like a good deal, but for what she needs, I don't think she needs to spend 3x as much. Basically, here is whats happening. This is my friends computer. I told him I could make him a new pc for about $500. (1600+, Epox KT333 MOBO, Radeon 8500LE, 40x burner, dvd drive, 512mb pc2700 samsung RAM (he already has a 7200 40 gb HD)). This 733MHZ would be his old pc, which would work perfect for my cousin, bringing his cost for a kick @ss pc down to about $250. A search on ebay and the forums shows $250 to be a fair price for his computer. Software is not an issue, since both go to colleges where you can get free copies of XP and office. (OR $15 a copy if you want to keep the CDs).

so as not to start a new thread, are there any good scanners out there that are USB and really cheap? high quality modes are not needed. It will only be used to take photographs and scan them to be put on yahoo photos.

Absolutely. I'm not going to do your legwork for you by posting links because with very little effort you can go back to Ebay or Pricewatch and find them yourself.
