what's a durable, fast laptop for less than $700?

I'm just looking for lots of suggestions for a laptop under $700. I don't care how old it is because I'm happy getting one on ebay or craigslist.

1. Basically, the most important thing to me is durability.
I'm tired of laptops where the whole body flexes, and where the hinges break if you apply any reasonable amount of force in opening it. I just want something where I don't have think about being gentle all the time, so I can really get my work done. Probably the best way to find out that info would be to first decide on a model and then look at consumer experiences with it, but I just wanted to mention that durability is the most important thing I'm going for.

2. Must be at least the speed of an average P3-1GHz machine, but I don't care at all what chip it is.

3. Must have a nice long battery, like 4 hours or more. I'm ok with filling up the optical bay with an extra battery if that's an option.

after that, I don't care too much...

If you think of anything, just throw it out there. I want to look at lots of options. Thanks!
