If you're looking at news cars, I think you're pretty much gonna be confined to Korean cars :)

well, since you're looking for something reliable, I wouldn't go with a used Mercury. Buy a Maxima or a Camry cause those are really reliable for used cars

A Honda Accord with a manual transmission and a 4 cylinder is reasonably peppy and gets very good mileage.

For 98+, the LX gets the VTEC 4 cylinder, but for 94-97, only the EX has the VTEC. Still, the 94-97 base engine is fair with a manual (no more of a punishment than my 5 speed 102 HP '92 Civic, I can still have a little fun in that car). They last forever (OK, not forever, but well over 200,000 miles not even close to uncommon) with proper care, and they do pretty well with indifferent care, unless the timing belt breaks.

BTW, you should fit as well in an Accord as an Eclipse. But you might just need to go around and sit in lots of cars until you figure out which models you will be reasonably comfortable in. I'm 5'10", so I don't have that problem. I can fit in just about any car ever made.

OMg wow just wow. That is so ugly. I don't know for sure but i think that's gonna sell about as well as an Aztek. it looks like a WWII combat vehicle in yellow.

OMG the internals on that thing are hideous. that is NOT going to sell. I'll vouch my entire word on that.

<< I wouldn't go with a used Mercury. >>

The Tbird Cougar line are very solid cars and inexpensive to fix compared to Japanese or European cars.

I just bought my father's old '95 Marquis for $4000 and I'd challenge any car in cost of upkeep or reliability. 130,000 and runs like a new one literally!
Getting over 23mpg...in comfort!

"...I wouldn't go with a used Mercury."

Well, I sure as hell would! And in case you missed it, bob970 said, "... the honda is prolly to small for me.. im 6'8".

I don't think we need to tell him how good a big Ford is anyway, since he's driven them before:Here's some links for YOUR edification though:
  • Ford Crown Victoria reviews

    Ford Police Cars
    • The 1990 and 1991 Crown Victoria was one of the best "work-horses" that many police fleets have ever seen.
    1996 Mercury Grand Marquis LS
    • ...for fleet customers and individuals looking for maximum space in a solid, reliable 4-door package...
    Dear Tom and Ray:
    • I need a four-door, six-passenger car with good reliability and safety features that I can use to commute 70 miles daily to work -- plus haul the family around on weekends. I'm looking for a car that will still be around when the payments are finished and have reasonable resale value. I've had more than my share of problems with my 1990 Ford Taurus, so I don't want another one of those. I'd prefer American-made, but would buy a foreign model. What comes to mind for me? -- Mark

Tom: If you don't like the Avalon for some reason, my second choice would be a Ford Crown Victoria. But I think you're going to like the Avalon, Mark.
    Phil Edminston's Lemon-Aid Car Guides
    • ...Ford's name constantly comes up in my e-mails and research due to the chronic quality and safety problems affecting its vehicles. For balance, though, I must add that Ford does do some things right, like processing efficiently its Firestome claims and recently re-organizing its customer relations department in Canada. Plus, there are some Ford models I recommend, like the Escort, Mustang, Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis.

If you want to give up that manual transmission and several MPG, there are many smaller dealerships that specialize in selling retired police cruisers. You could potentially get something as new a '97 Crown Vic for as little as $4500 or so. Step up to about $7000, and you're looking at late models in good condition with fairly low miles.

If you like that idea, here's a link to a Ford Police Interceptor homepage that I like. He has a bunch of good information and a list of dealers in the US, but it is undoubtedly far from being all-inclusive.

Get yourself a $1000 Honda and spend 9k on stickers you will have a 9 second car, lol. If it was me I'd look at a truck, maybe a mid 90's F-150 or Dodge or Chevy.

Cougars are good cars. I can't quite remember, but I know I heard some nasty stories about Avengers...

Anyways, a Cougar won't be much bigger than a honda.

Aslong as its a 97 or earlier cougar it is larger than a honda.

My dad just retired his 96 t-bird 4.6l which is the samething as the cougar and it has 270k miles on it. Its been the best car he has ever had. The only two problem areas with these cars is the intake manifolds crack but I am pretty sure its covered under a recall and you have to change transmission fluid on time and with the proper fluid or you get a shudder going into second gear.

Just stay away from the 3.8l v6 versions and you will be fine.

I looked at a couple of Early 90s Mercedes Benz 300Es, fast and nice cars. They might fit you but I would check first. Personally I am going to try to get a 70s 450SL though, but that would be way to small for you. Ooh if your feel like drooling go check Luxury Motors on Ogden.
