What's a cat that has a good personality and is hypoallergenic?

I love cats, but I now get itchy eyes and nose when I spend too much time around them. I don't want to give up on keeping cats, so I'm hoping there are breeds that are hypoallergenic. I especially like cats that are active, curious, and aggressively affectionate. Any low-dander cats (other than Sphinx) that meet the personality test?

Cats have personalities?

or how about this

specific breeds of cats have different personalities?

I have a Norwegian Forest Cat- pretty much as close to a dog as one can have in feline form. She loves attention, being pet, playing (she'll even fetch with her fake mice); she follows me around, is waiting by the door when I get home, jumps on my lap, sleeps on the bed, and even likes to lick my hand. She's also very active and curious, and isn't freaked out by new situations/conditions. I don't let her outside, but supposedly Norwegian Forest Cats love to climb and can run down a tree head-first (they're also suppose to be great hunters). And from what I've been reading, these are the general characteristics of their breed. Maine my excellent compatriot cats are also great- they're very playful and friendly and have been nicknamed the "gentle giants" since they can get to be 16lbs.

Unfortuantely, I can't speak too much on the allergy aspect as I don't have a problem with most cats. They are long haired, but I never noticed much dander- probably something you would want to look into first.

No, no, no. It's DOGS that have all those different personalities (fetches stick, wags tail, rolls over, barks at door, obediently comes over whenever you call).

Sorry, but I prefer cats.

It doesn't have to be NON-allergenic. But low in allergens would be a good starting point. I'm not horribly allergic, and I know that there are some treatments (Allerpet C, for example) that you can rub into their fur once a week that greatly reduce whatever allergens are there.

Sounds like Siberian Cats are near-hypoallergenic

"The Siberian is a great choice for the cat lover with allergies - as they do not have FeLD protein in their saliva which creates dander, and are hypoallergenic, or not an allergy problem to most allergy sufferers."

yes they do, and the different breeds have different personalities.

from this site:

"Hypoallergenic kittens ? Not really

Fel D1 is a protein in the kitten's saliva that causes allergies. When she grooms herself, the protein attaches to cat dander. So, there's no such thing as a hypoallergenic kitten. But if your allergies aren't severe and you would like to have a cat, you may have some options.

* Go girl: Girl kitties tend to produce a lot less of the Fel D1 protein.

* Get him clipped: Neutered males make less Fel D1 than intact males.

* Buy an allergy-friendly breed: Some breeds appear to produce less of the protein including the Cornish, Devon, Selkirk Rex, Sphynx, and Siberian."

Ragdolls are known for their personalities and the fact that many people 'alergic to cats' are fine with them.
