Just a few months ago I heard some rumors that AMD's new chips were going to come out with a perminent multiplyer lock by removing some pins. Whatever happened to that? Was it just a rumor or did AMD get scared that nobody would buy their chips anymore?

What in the name of Richard Simmons are you guys talking about?

As for the Socket A multiplier lock, it was just the latest in a string of "overclocking is dead" rumors from the past two years. Most are likely started by cautious motherboard manufacturers or large OEM's who fear the potential tech-support burden if overclocking truly goes mainstream. Perhaps even AMD and Intel themselves are responsible for some of the rumors, in an attempt to curb the practice or at least inject a little doubt into the mix to keep the real newbies from doing anything that will cost them RMA products.

Modus, this thread was originally posted in FS/FT, hence the confusion.

Ah, in that case I deplore your blatant price-gouging and lack of customer service!

Better?
