As for the Socket A multiplier lock, it was just the latest in a string of "overclocking is dead" rumors from the past two years. Most are likely started by cautious motherboard manufacturers or large OEM's who fear the potential tech-support burden if overclocking truly goes mainstream. Perhaps even AMD and Intel themselves are responsible for some of the rumors, in an attempt to curb the practice or at least inject a little doubt into the mix to keep the real newbies from doing anything that will cost them RMA products.
