Whatever happened to Interplay?

It seemed like Interplay made so many critically acclaimed (and financially successful) PC games. How is it that they've just completely disappeared in the past few years? I heard Fallout 3 was almost done when they canceled it.

Not to mention Normality, one of the funnest games I've ever played. Oh yeah, didn't they make The Lost Vikings too?

They went bankrupt trying to pay royalties to BioWare for some of the games they developed, IIRC. From what I've heard, they're gonna try to make a comeback with a Fallout MMO, but I doubt they'll be able to pull it off. The Fallout license is now owned wholly by Bethesda, and Fallout 3 is currently in production (a friend of mine pointed out that the Fallout 3 teaser will be released June 5th, but I don't know what his source was)

Blizzard made The Lost Vikings. Interplay may have published it.

Black Isle made those games. Interplay just published them.

Which? Interplay made Baldur's Gate and they made Fallout 1 & 2.

I was mistaken about Baldur's Gate, but the first two Fallout games were made by Black Isle, the first of which by the same team when they were still under Interplay's name. You can see that mentioned here.

My understanding is that BioWare and Interplay, as has been mentioned, are two different companies. Black Isle is/was a division of Interplay that, rather than publishing games, worked at developing them. Black Isle was closed down a few years ago, although many of its employees went on to form Obsidian Entertainment, who developed Neverwinter Nights 2.

Or something like that.
