I remember you used to be able to go to the supermarket, and they would have brains in the chilled section.

You could scramble them up with some eggs. Tasty.

Haven't seen them for years. Has the world gone mad? Or is it just the cows?

Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease in human, BSE in cows scare people. I ate some pig brain with scrambled eggs once, it was too rich for my taste.

In Asia, some food are using Cow Brain
Pig is rarely, because some religion warned about eating pig

Mad cow disease and other prion related diseases. Brains are also incredibly bad for you. One of, if not the worst meats for cholesterol.

It can be fantastic when prepared well, but it's been ages since I last had any brains. I assume for the reasons stated above, it's just seems to not be offered much anymore.

though i dont think its been conclusively proven you need to worry unless you eat the brains of the same species
