seems like every major computer manufacturer has had some sort of unix development during its history (except gateway). so what happened to dell's?

They never had one. Dell is a relatively new computer company, so they've been slaves to Microsoft and Intel for the entire life of their company.

actually they did.

take a look

Actually, we used to have our own Dell version of Unix back in the late 1980's, so we're not totally brain-dead when it comes to this stuff.

Dell used to sell a generic version of AT&T SysV UNIX on some of their servers.... but if I remember right, they sort of turned that stuff over to SCO, and all their customers were migrated to SCO.

Well, I'll be...

I did a Google search on this, and found out about "Dell UNIX System V/386". Interesting, but this little toy OS hardly compares to the commercial UNIX platforms like AIX and Solaris.
