Tried Whataburger for the first time today. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The burgers were big and pretty tasty for fast food. The Double Whataburger reminded me how old Whopper from Burger King used to taste back in the 80s and 90s before Burger King went to all shit and burger taste microwaved and nasty now. And Whataburger medium fries portions were big and comparable to large or extra large fries elsewhere. And medium drink was 32 oz. Again that's like large drink elsewhere. It's too bad there's no Whataburger location in Atlanta and near where I live. Georgia needs Whataburger. Great fast food burger for the price.

I just saw an article that they were coming back to Tennessee. They were here a long time ago.

I had Whataburger earlier in the year during a business trip. As you said, It's better than McD and the likes, but not quite as good as Five Guys or In-n-Out. Enjoyed the spicy ketchup they have.

It's good and I miss it, but for me, a lot of that is nostalgia as opposed to it being the best burger ever.

WaB is dime a dozen around here. They are everywhere just as Waffle House locations. They are very good for a chain, definitive better than other chains such as McD, BK, and others well know burger places.

I do like their grill chicken sandwich better. I used to order their chicken sandwich combo early in the morning (around 2 a.m.) when I headed home from 2nd shift several years ago.

#2 grilled onions/jalapenos w bacon and shredded cheese, medium onion rings, medium iced tea, medium Dr Pepper shake, one regular ketchup, one spicy ketchup

The all time favorites/special burgers are almost always better on Texas toast.

For breakfast: breakfast burger ranchero style on jalapeno cheddar biscuit.

I drove past by the local WaB about 1/2 hour ago (about 11:30 p.m. Central) and it was packed in the drive tho. All the way out to the street. Popular around here for sure.

For the first time in my 40 years, I have to watch what I eat. After my colon surgery to remove a blockage a year ago, I've since gained 30 pounds to 180 lbs and can no longer simply eat what I want. I had frequented Five Guys and other fast food for decades without consequence - even my blood test numbers came back healthy. Now I'm on my fitbit app counting calories with every single meal. If I had one of these burgers, I'd have to skip a meal entirely. 2000 calories a day max just to lose 1 lb a week. Rough, but I don't want to have this belly fat anymore. In short, I don't know what I'm doing in this thread.

If any of y'all Texans have a Hat Creek Burger Company nearby I suggest you check it out. They have a drive through.

I don't think we have them around here. Best I've had is Five Guys, but it's not really fair to compare them to the big fast food joints.

It's small regional chain started and based out of Texas. I don't think we have Whataburger in Georgia either. I always saw it in Florida but never ate there since I normally eat local seafood while I'm in Florida and don't eat fast food. But I was in mood for burger yesterday and there was Whataburger location pretty close to the condo where I'm staying in Navarre Beach.

Now that I've had In-N-Out Burger and Whataburger, I would rate Whataburger higher than In-N-Out. Double Whataburger really reminded me of old style Burger King Whopper which was my favorite fast-food burger growing up in the late 80s and 90s before Whopper became terrible and inedible. I don't know if it's because it's Texas based chain but portion size at Whataburger was very generous. And what puts Whataburger on top over In-N-Out are the fries. In-N-Out has the world's worst fries. It's practically inedible. I don't understand how they can make fries that taste so awful. But In-N-Out fries are awful and never should be ordered. Whataburger has decent fries which they give you mountain of.

It's basically the gold standard of fast food burgers in TX and has been since about 1950. I tried in and out when it came here a few years ago, meh. Whataburger spoiled me from birth.

However now that they sold out to Chicago I expect it to become trash like everything else but more prevalent than it is now.

I went to Whataburger again today since it might be awhile before I can eat it again. Got the #2 like you described except the girl taking my order forgot to check onion rings instead of fries. Burger was excellent. It's really lot of food for the money. After having it twice, Whataburger double burger is definitely better than In-N-Out double-double. I feel like Whataburger burger is also twice the size of In-N-Out burger. I'm now Whataburger convert.

Atlanta just sucks when it comes to food. It is as if everyone with food taste stayed out of Atlanta during the great 1990-2015 migration and thus everyone had boring food tastes. The last two times I traveled I did so not just because of other interesting things, but because of the food options. People near me have to literally get on a f-ing plane and travel to get good food.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Atlanta has plenty of good food options. Guess it depends on what you're looking for but you don't strike me as a foodie.

The fuck? We've had multiple threads based largely almost around people on here shitting on Five Guys, but people in here acting like its one of the best fast food burgers? Granted I like Five Guys (I'd take their burgers over a lot of other places, not just fast food), and defend them as far as being good, I just think they're massively overpriced. But what the hell?

In 'n Out is overrated I think, but if you like them its almost impossible to beat value.

I haven't had Whataburger in forever (since I was a kid and we went through Texas). I've thought about trying them but pretty meh since they have Coke (prefer Pepsi) and they don't look special enough to go out of my way to (although being open 24 hours working overnights I'm sure I will try them).

OP, have you had Culver's? They're based out Wisconsin but there's several down here in AZ and so I figured maybe the Southeast might be similar. I like their burgers. Its not spectacular but solid and they have the best cheese of just about any chain, I'd take them probably 2nd for fast food burgers here (Phoenix metro area) behind Five Guys.

I personally like Carl Jrs, but they seem hit or miss, and have been more miss down here so I never eat there. Which they're kinda like Whataburger (you mentioning their drink sizes for instance, Carl Jr is same way, plus they at least have Cherry Coke in their fountain).

If you're in the NM region (they were slowly branching out into AZ and TX), try Blake's Lottaburger. I wish they'd get one here already. They have Five Guys quality burgers for more reasonable prices and they had Cherry Pepsi in their fountains (Culver's does too, but its not cold and their ice is practically already melting out of the machine). Have some other unique little aspects that I can't recall (they have some season fries or something?).

We've eaten Fatburger (think they're mostly in CA?) a couple of times. There's a couple in casinos down here. Unfortunately have to go into the casino (smoke smell...and weird people). I really liked them the first time. 2nd time not as much, but still decent. They had switched from Pepsi to Coke (but I think that's due to the casino as their free fountains had also changed that way), but even the burgers weren't quite as good but might have been time (although the first time it was like 1AM on a weekday so you wouldn't think optimal but it was good).

Not sure if they're still doing it, but if there's a Cheddar's nearby they were offering a 4 burgers and fries for $20 deal. And they have pretty good sized burgers. I used to like them but their burgers now have like a sweetness to them (reminds me of Cheesecake Factory) that I don't like, but others might.

And underrated burger would have been Chili's, but then the last time we ordered from there they sent a roadkill (i.e. those slapped together, where they don't even form a patty and there's like bits of gristle holding big chunks of the meat together - I have no clue why places do that, Applebee's started doing it and I think Freddy's Frozen Custard does it too, and I hate it). But have had good experiences other times eating there, including one time, I think we were finished eating and paid as quickly as if we'd gone to Five Guys as they had our order and food out to us (and made well) within like 15 minutes and while they weren't crowded busy they weren't mostly empty either.

I used to like Famous Dave's but they play country music now and I've had maybe one really good burger (I usually get the Devil's Spit) out like the last 5 times I've eaten there, so they're another that I kinda gave up on. Red Robin is overrated and their bottomless fries are a joke (most of the time its plain steak fries, although sometimes they season them?). The last 3 times we ate there (was always with family), had to constantly ask for more fries because they'd bring them out in small little baskets with like barely 5-6 steak fries like they were cheaping out on fries or something.

Fuddruckers was ok. I don't remember how their food tastes, I don't recall it being bad but I don't recall it being good to the point I actively think of them. They have a variety of options (think they have buffalo and maybe ostrich burgers too?)
