87 killed in Thai plane crash
"A Thai airliner crashed after it landed Sunday at Phuket airport in southern Thailand. Eighty-seven people died and 43 were injured, Health Ministry officials said."

This was on CNN, was just curious, how does a plan land and then crash? I mean, 'land' means it made it and has stopped. Where as crashed, well, i shouldn't have to explain.

Plus...the city has a funny name. ^_^ Phuket...*snicker*

Sad that all those people died though. =/

It "landed" (air to ground) but it didn't come to a full stop yet and hit something that was nearby before it could come to a full stop?

"When they were up in the air, they thought something was not right," Maria Nihlen said. "Before the second [landing attempt], they knew that they were going to crash and they formed into position for an emergency landing and, well, then it happened."

no, it hit the ground, INSTEAD of landing. Thats what i gather, although the wording of this story is quite confusing. lol. I just found it odd.

At least 88 people were killed when the aircraft, operated by a Thai budget airline, skidded off a runway in heavy rain on the southern island of Phuket.

Phuket is a beautiful place and a great holiday spot. I have good memories of the place. First time I ever went diving - ended up feeding breadcrumbs to the fishes :)

Phuket, and Thailand for that matter, is the best place I have been to out of all my travels. I havent exactly seen the whole world, but my travel portfolio is quite extensive.

Pei Pei island is great. Its beautiful, and along with Phuket has the best beaches ive been too. Someone should really tell the Hawaii tourists what they are missing out on.

I think I saw this on the news. It said something about the pilot trying to take off again and do a go around, but something went wrong.

And landing is just touching down on the pavement.

They probably just touched down and said "Phuket, I'm clocking out," and walked back to have hot pilot sex with the stewardess in the bathroom. The plane then proceeded to run off the runway and crash.

I loved Thailand too, but the south was pretty touristy. Gorgeous, mind you, but touristy. Better beaches in Madagascar for that reason.

Phuket is pronounced pu'kit in case anyone was wondering and is home to some truly beautiful Thai/French women. However, the beer there sucks.

From what I understood on the news, it landed hard, bounced back up and retouched down even harder then the first and split in two. There was a bad storm going on at the time.
