I was so worried about Leviathan before it came out... I had been hearing that Mastodon was going to be the next Slipknot... ya know... big label, starts to become more about money and record contracts than the music. But damn that album blew me away... I had it in my car for like a month after it came out.

I'd have to agree that that album was above my expectations. Blood and Thunder is great, my favorite song though, is Naked Burn.
About Slipknot though...I do really think they enjoy playing their music. It's just that their content is shifted greatly. I think it shows in their latest album that they really play with feeling. I never realized until I started watching "behind the sceens" videos, how much is cut/disallowed by producers.

You're damn right! The chicks love it. Not a single song I listed has a male vocal in the whole thing, and the vast majority are very subdued and relaxing, which is what you really want. Forget the commonplace love songs stuff, forget the fast-paced rhythmic humping stuff, it's all about getting her to relax and enjoy herself.
