I'm not kinda rich these days (student). My old Duron 750 is getting slow in some games. What you think of this upgrade ?

Go from a Radeon LE to a Hercules 8500LE 64MB and Duron 750 to Athlon XP 1800+ (that's the max on my motherboard, a MSI K7T Turbo) for less than 100$ CDN.

Opinions ?

I think that would be a nice boost, perhaps next year buy a new nforce2 mb and memory and still use your old components.

I think you'll be happy with the performance upgrade... may want to double check that your power supply will handle the new stuff. RAM is also a cheap upgrade. If you're running Windows XP, 512 MB of RAM would help a lot.

Gonna game alot? I know budget is tight, so maybe this isn't feasible, but the GF4 Ti 4200 seems to be dropping quite a bit lately, as low as 115 and you could overclock it too.

Livedistortion, it sounds like ROcHE is pretty short on cash. I'd say that if he can pick up a 8500LE AND an XP 1800+ for less than $100 CDN (about $70 US) that's a pretty good deal.

The only potential problem I see is that at MSI website giving you the list of Athlons it can support, it says the motherboard has to be Rev. 3.0. If you have a earlier version you could run into problems. Check the Revision on your motherboard just to be on the safe side.

I agree with you Kreig, for really tight budget, definitely 8500LE. Just throwin the GF4 out there.

Thanks for all replies.

Motoamd, I just checked on my motherboard, and I can read K7T Turbo Version 3 between the PCI slots so I assume it's a revision 3. Thanks for the piece of advice anyway.
