Is there anything that can top 1994?

Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Leon the Professional, Pulp Fiction, and Lion King.

I haven't seen any of those.

How...?

I just haven't gotten around to seeing Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction and Lion King* didn't sound worthwhile, and I've never heard of Leon the Professional.

Umm, isn't it just The Professional?

The year a movie is released is quite different than the years it was made.

While I can't name a single 'best year' in movies, I do claim that the stretch of 1977-80 likely produced the best density of great films.

Too many to list, but we go from 'Star Wars' to 'Apocalypse Now' in a short span.

I always like 1984. To bad Star Wars VI was in 1983 or that would act as the crown to 1984.

1984:
Beverly Hills Cop
Ghostbusters
Terminator
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Gremlins
The Karate Kid (Yes I am going there)
Police Academy

And if that is not enough:
Footloose
Romancing the Stone
Bachelor Party
The Last Starfighter
The Philadelphia Experiment (I loved it as a kid, so it is here)
Sixteen Candles

Omitted from my list, but 1984 non the less:
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Splash
This Is Spinal Tap

While I don't agree with every single one of your choices I do agree it was the best year for film.
