What XP speed must I buy to beat my P4?

I've got a P4 1.6a@2.33. I think this is faster than an XP2100+ ... but if I got a 2100+ and OC'd it, would the XP system be noticably faster than my P4 system? For example, if I got a 1700+ and OC'd it to 2GHz, would it be faster, or just on par with my current system?

I think if you got a Xp 2100 TBred-B you could OC it to a XP 2700 speed. My XP 1700 benches as fast an 2GHz Willamette non OC'ed. :) So a XP 2700 is probably like a 2.9GHz P4 or somewheres about there.

>would the XP system be noticably faster

I think it would be hard to notice while you are surfing the Internet. Where are you seeing a deficiency in what you do?

Well, I think now is a good time to buy a new proc, because I can still sell my current processor for a deccent amount. (Okay, well, I notice I can't play freelancer or splinter cell or ut2k3 at 1280x1024 with all the bells and whistles at 50+ FPS solid, but that may be vid-related too.) It's also a good time to buy because a decently-priced chip when OC'd should hold me a good year. And really, I was just curious if, when OC'd, I would notice a difference between what I have now and an AMD system.

From what everyone says and the reviews, XPs are terrific at games like UT3, so OCing a 2100+ should be a noticeable boost for not much money.

Get an 2.4 c1 for 160.00 and oc it to 3.24ghz w/ 450mhz ddr like me at 1.58v...or if I want speed I can go 3.33ghz w/ 166v with 370mhz cas2 ddr....

sandra benches higher then a dual pc2700 sis655 mobo.....wonder what xp it takes to match that???

I'm not looking for a flame war. I'm also not looking to spend $150+ on a chip :) Now, $50 for a 1700 or 90 for a 2100 and we're really talking. That's what's making AMD so attractive to me at the moment.

What kind of budget are you looking at? I bought my 1700+ tbred b for $50 and my 8rda for around $100 and my kingston for $95. I have it clocked faster than a 3000+ right now, and I'm pretty sure that'll mop the floor with a 2.33 p4

If you crunch DC projects you'll see a nice lil' boost with the 2100+@2700+ speeds :)

as in the main theme of the replys... faster in what??

Personally i downclock my Athlon Xp to 700 Mhz (50%) when i just surf the web / chat as the extra speed doesn't really help at all. And since my heatsink is a Volcano 9, the fan speed slows and quiet is finally heard in the room...

Anyway, i vote for the Athlon XP 1700+ Tbred B!!

if you're gonna transition from the dark side, you're also gonna need an new mobo. (amd boards are cheaper than p4 boards too btw)
