What wrong with my internet?

Here are the symptoms:

Internet connection just randomly shuts down, resulting in none of the computers on the network getting internet, including wireless. After unplug/replugging the router the internet comes back.

Weird things:

When the internet goes down, I can no longer browse the web, but my BitTorrent client (uTorrent) still works???

When the internet goes down, sometimes I can still ping google in cmd prompt and sometimes I can't. The times when I can ping google, the latency is pretty high, like 500ms.

When the internet goes down, sometimes it comes back on its own after a few minutes to a half hour.

My router is Linksys WRT54G v5 with the latest firmware (v1.00.6).

hi, since there are several pc, can you see the other pc in network places and access them? can you successfully ping them? can you open your router's web interface when this occurs using the routers ip as the web site address? what happens when you release your ip and renew it on a pc? does it get an ip,etc.?

Could be the router is giving up under the pressure of bittorrent and other things. v5 of the WRTs are much lower quality and performance then the previous models, maybe you should think about trying a different one.

When the internet is down I can still log into my router and using the built-in Linksys ping program I can successfully ping other sites, which is very strange. It basically makes it look like the router is getting an internet connection, but it just refuses to "route" it to any of the other computers.

That's what I've heard. Too bad I didn't know about this when I purchased it. If I send it to Linksys do you think they'll give me a v4 ?

I've had something like this happen a couple of times, try setting the MTU to Manual and leaving it at 1500 rather than auto. It's worth a shot anyway:D
