A Senator has called for the draft to be reinstated after the election. As a father of a boy approaching 18, I know that I am VERY unhappy about this.

How would other parents or would be parents feel about this? Honestly?

I can't speak as a parent of someone who could be drafted but I do speak as someone who could get drafted themselves and if I get drafted for Bush's BS war I am going to be pissed.

That being said, I really don't think there is going to be a draft.

There isn't going to be a draft, jesus. It's a political move to make people like you oppose the war.

Wait a minute, did you read the news article. This is being proposed by Republicans. Why would Repubs want you to be against their own war? Does not make sense at all guy.

I'd go, but I honestly don't want to. But if they force us to, I'd go. I would not run or hide.

Well, I concede this is a repost. However, instead of blaming me let me suggest that:
1. People put clear description is their subjects so that people can search to see if it were posted before. I did run a search on the word draft - which should have been in the subject.

2. The glorious forum upgrade took away our ability to sort or forum view by post date rather than the latest bump. I don't have time to read through the first 5 pages to see the latest daily posts when just a few days ago I could accomplish that in mere moments. This feature should be brought back or we can expect alot of off topic postings. . . See the "Forum Issues" section for a discussion on this and the forum admins stating it may be months to get this feature back.

3. Finally, I'm glad that I gave you some small joy today. I'm glad you inflated your ego by correcting spelling on a forum. Gee, I'll have to make sure to type all of my stuff in a wordprocessor now - the horror, the embarressment!!! Geez, get a life - no really - get a life.

LOL you're taking this a little too personal. Everybody that posts a reposts get the same treatment here, you're no different.

Ok, well in this case, it still isn't going to happen. The "Deteriorating security" title is not at all what he talks about reinstating the draft for. He wants the rich upper class to have to serve as well, which is still just a stupid political move, even if for a different cause.

What the hell happened to a free country... those who are successful don't need to be forced to suffer like us common folk. As much as it is unfair, it is what America is about, and it is what I will die protecting.

I'd try to find out who his mother is. Seriously doubt there is enough political will or likelyhood that a draft will occur especially in time to serve in Iraq.

I'm still living on the "there is no way they are going to draft," although in the event of a draft, I would probably wouldn't pass the physical for it, I could get exempt because of poor knees, if all else fails I'd pack my bags and transfer to vancouver :D

If you really read into it, there are a lot of things you can do to be exempt from being drafted.

Plus, with the shape of kids these days, 90% of them would be to goddamn fat to get on the bus to basic training.
