What would you think if Anandtech had an online store?

What do you think if Anandtech got into the reselling business? Surely it would start out with a relatively large customer base (us). Do you think it would be a conflict of interest? I'm sure that most of us would trust the content even if he did get into the business.

If you're talking about selling computer hardware, then I'd say no. I wouldn't trust the AT reviews if they were trying to sell it. Obviously the review isn't gonna say "This board stinks, but you can buy this quality board from us for a very low price"

get what I'm sayin'?

Except we all know what's good and what isn't. How many of you just read a review from Anandtech? I read reviews of stuff from all over. Generally, if it's good, all the reviews would say so. He could just sell "editor's choice" type stuff.

I think it would be cool but it does raise the possibility of bias in a review. Would the store only carry products that got good reviews or would it carry a wide range of things? If you say it would only carry things that got good reviews then you would have to ask yourself if things are getting good reviews just so they can sell it in the store. It's a slippery slope if you ask me but I still think the store might be a good idea.

Yes and no. If you check almost any review site on the web, ABIT's Socket-A motherboards got fantastic reviews - I know the KT7 was an AnandTech "Editor's Choice". However, on these boards many people thought the KT7 was another lousy ABIT offering that was DOA half the time.

Also, there are hundreds of discussions here each day on what pieces of hardware are the best: witness the Radeon vs. GeForce or Intel vs. AMD debates that are constantly happening.
It would be impossible to offer a product lineup of just "Editor's Choice" stuff that wouldn't cause half the people here to go berzerk.

I wouldn't buy anything from it.

AT is bad. The owner is getting rich, and then finds poor suckers to moderate his forums for free. Compensation is in order.

yes, merchandise perhaps, especially something utilizing anandtech lingo (NEF, IS Suck, All Your Base) but computer hardware would deffinately be a conflict of interest.

Hmmm......I am the exact opposite. I wouldn't have a problem with it. It really would depend on what kinda pattern they developed. Gamepc I find trust worthy even though they are a reseller. Look at 2Cool he is a very trust worthy person and he offers reviews on heatsinks and he's a reseller. It really depends on the people or the person, with Anand I wouldn't feel any different. Now if it was cough>>Sharkyextreme<<cough I would be skeptical. Wait a minute I am already skeptical of them. :)

Oh yes, he finds poor suckers that just happen to be enthusiastic about moderating and are willing doing it for free. Yeah...

Please don't crap on this thread.

I agree with everyone who thinks it would be a conflict of interest. I don't know that I would trust the reviews if they were selling certain items and had a review that touted it as being better than one they did not carry.

Depends on how the pricing and service are.

He can recommend hardware all he wants, but I look at multiple reviews anytime I plan a purchase. :)

I'm the same way...I always check the reviews Anandtech first and then look around at other sites, newsgroups, and other forums. Review sites are great but truly the best info comes from other users.

Now...I WANT AN AT T-SHIRT!!!!!
