A friend of mine wants to get a new video card (very, very bad handling of his 9500 pro has made is almost incapable of 3d rendering).

The big question for him to decide on is does he want to spring for 300$ for a GT (I can get this card from a wholesaler), or does he want to spend 150-200 for something in that range?

The question I want to ask you guys is, if he did choose 150-200, what would you suggest?
This is an nForce2 board, so no PCIe. We were originally looking at the 6600 GT, but of course it is not out just yet.

I suggested he wait until the AGP version comes out, but he might just want to get something now.
To that, I suggested the 9800 Pro 128MB.

It kind of sucks that there are no AGP versions of X600, X700 and 6600GT.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Id second going with a 9800 or coughing up the money for a 6800/x800. The 9800 will be noticably faster then a 9500 and you should be able to find one under $200 pretty easily.

There are no inbetween cards worth getting imo

Why is the 6600gt not worth getting for the same price( when the AGP version comes out). It performs with the 9800xt and is better suited for next generation games.

It performs better than the 9800 xt in D3, and that is the game he cares about (don't ask me why).

Tell him he can take a chance with a 9800se softmodded to pro.

9800SE 128mb/256bit

Heck if it works he can beef up the hsf and maybe even get it up to 9800xt speeds.

Yeah! Well if you like making a VW Beetle into a Porsche Carrera! This is a $155 card well within his range.

To softmod go to the omega drivers website I believe it is www.omegadrivers.net or something like that.
