What would you say are ideal temps?

Recently checked the temps on my PC with a hardware monitoring tool and they get to a max of 50, min of around 28 while idle. A stress test with Prime95 pushed them north of 90. Is this normal?

Much of it depends on your setup... and whether or not it's overclocked, how it's cooled, etc.

It's an i7 3.4GHz CPU Alienware X51 R2 (I know, I know. Next time I buy a gaming rig I most certainly will not get an Alienware). Very cramped little tower. Not overclocked. Never replaced the stock cooling.

90c is safe, and pretty normal for an AVX load. Good, even, considering the size of your tower. Caution zone is when you're pushing upper 90's to 100c in stress testing like that, or frequently above 90 in day-to-day usage.

I don't think I'd ever get to north of 90s during regular usage, that was just when I ran a Blend torture test with Prime95. I monitored for a few hours while gaming and it got up to mid 50s-mid 60s.
