Fortron is the king of budget PSUs, Ultra X and Xclio are not loved around here.

Simple version is they aren't trusted.

XCLIO isn't? Several other forums love the xclio.
I'd say it's between the xclio and the fortron.

thats 1 thing i dont understand with the ultra-x, are the rails unstable or what? They're pretty cheap stuff though, the new one is $60 at my local fry's 600w. As long as all the cables will reach in an antec slk3000b, ill prob go xclio b/c price/performance right?

where are you getting the negative info's about the xclio bobthelost? xclio's parts comes from the same place antec get theirs. fortron has stronger 12v rails than the xclio, but it's still not a bad choice getting either.

I don't really prefer any of the 3 choices, but if I have to pick one of them, the Fortron would be it.

The xclio is a good unit as well but I'd still take the FSP unit first over the xclio FSP > channel well which is who makes some of Antecs units and most of xclio's units

Don't get suckered by the Ultra-X - it looks flashy but it's a piece of junk. It's a generic dressed up with LEDs and fancy cables.

Edit: so yeah, Fortron.

I recently debated between that same Fortron and the XClio. When I made the purchase I was in a "buying on a budget" frame of mind, so every penny counted. I went with the XClio simply because it was $5 cheaper and I couldn't find any substantial negatives about it.

If I wasn't worried about budget, I probably would have gone with the Fortron simply because it has MORE positive reviews for it. Both units have positive reviews, but the Fortron simply has more of them.

Thing is i'm yet to see these reviews, when the "review" is no more scientific than a user sticking it in thier computer, opening up the motherboard monitoring apps and saying "this is soo cool" then it's not worth mentioning.

There are some "professional" (aka, reviewing websites) reviews out there for the XClio. They're harder to find though, which is why I say there aren't as many.

For Example

Yes, testing a 500W PSU with a maximum load of 263W is impressive isnt' it? ALthough that is a much better review than most of the ones i've seen. Not to mention the short 2 year waranty that i've only just noticed.
