I have a 27inch ilo LCD with DVI. It's actually an HDTV. I bought it over a year ago when they dipped below $800. I've been using this as a monitor for quite some time.

I'm thinking about the Acer AL2416Wd or maybe the Dell 2405 just to get better resolution.
I have a 19inch CRT connected to the PC in question as well, the 27inch is really just used for games.

My primary game of choice is WoW. My 6800 is more then capable of running it at 1920x1200. My concern isn't the framerate, or possible performance loss, it's simply a matter of size vs resolution.

If you can afford it, I'd try to save a little more and grab one of the cheaper 37" 1920x1080p LCD TV's (Westinghouse or Sceptre)...There is nothing better than seeing Onyxia, Ragnaros, or Nefarius blown up in high resolution. The game gets THAT MUCH more immersive!

Thanks for the suggestion! I have contemplated that a LOT, however, I have lots of clutter in my townhouse as it is, and there just isn't physical space available in the area where I would want to put it.

Current Desk

The biggest I could fit in there is one of those new 30inch screens, but the price tag is more then I'm willing to pay. I have a 61 inch TV downstairs for when i watch movies, etc.

Also, thanks to everyone else for the feedback.

I think first you should buy a new desk.... that thing looks like it's about to collapse! :)

It has not collapsed in the 6 years since I tossed it together.
It used to have a lot more weight on it too.....

Back in the day there were 3 x 19inch CRTs on the monitor shelf and a 27inch TV (crt) up top .... over 250 pounds just in monitors ... now, it's barely got any weight on there ... and yes, I realize that the "build quality" of said desk is not optimal.

The desk is sturdy enough, I don't care how ugly the desk is. I just want my games to look good.

At 27 inches I'd be able to see the pixels, which completely defeats the purpose of high-res gaming. I may as well go back to my SNES if its going to be like that.

I have a 24 inch 1920x1200 and it works OK for games but mostly its an office display.
I still use the 19 inch CRT from Philips for my games. Every resolution looks good, and my 7900GTX is powerful enough to add anti-aliasing if I ever do see a pixel.

Eventually there will be a 21-inch LCD that has a good enough refresh and contrast for serious gaming, but for now I'm not satisfied with them.

I'd be really careful about getting the Sceptre. Granted it is a VERY nice display (and a full-featured TV to boot), but in my personal experience with it (got it for my GF), it is not something you want to use as your desktop monitor, unless your desk is VERY large (depth-wise). At a standard distance of about 20-25 inches away, the sceptre is waay too big still. Figure that in order to use a monitor without killing your eyesight, you should sit at 3/4 diameter away...

The biggest monitor I can envision using on a LARGE desk is a 30", but alas, there are no 1920x1080(1200) 30" monitors out there. Actually, I just got my 24" Dell, and I love it, but I don't think I'd want anything bigger on my desk.
