I can make a better looking graph with my numbers and upload it on imageshack. (Will put the 8800 Ultra on first place :p)

I say go with the Q6600 (we all like the word futureproof right), in the future more games will support 4 cores like they do 2 now (soon V8 will be mainstream) + a P35 mobo with a 3870 X2.

No such thing as futureproof. Sooner or later you are going to get stuck with 4 cores, clocked only at 2.4ghz. I think a e8400 at 4.0ghz will last you a longer time then a q6600 at 3.2-3.4ghz.

If price truly wasn't an issue, I'd go with the 3870X2. But the 8800GT has the best bang for the buck, while the 8800GTS 512mb is even higher performing. I'd recommend the GTS 512 if you have a lot of money to spend, since it's more consistent in performance. But hell, have some fun and go for the X2 if you really don't think $450 is anything to worry about.
