I intern at the Small contractor now and love the work i do. Its challenging and i learned alot.

I just been notified that there are a few intenship openings at Lockheed martin that i can apply to.

The positions at Lockheed are totoally diffferent.

Now i am a programmmer at the contractor, the lockheed one is Systems/Business Analysts (systems analysis, process engineering, requirements management)

The lockheed one seems more inline with my major (MIS).

Should i take the chance? Not that i am guranteed a job at Lockheed, but should i even bother since i like my current job? or should i take my chances while i am young and have no baggage..

If it means anything, I've been told that the whole internship hiring process takes on average about 6 months before you start working..assuming you get hired.

O have no way of checking though.

This is for the fall. Lockheed just send me an e-mail today. My current internship will turn into parttime during the fall. Decisions, decisions...

an internship at a large company is far more valuable then at a small company.

people need to be able to recoginze the name of the company you worked for and say wow, thats interesting, not umm ive never heard of those guys.

(this advice is specifiaccly for internships)

Normally I would agree with Ameesh, but for DoD contracting it doesn't matter. There are many small DoD contractors simply because there are some jobs that the government only gives to small contractors. Also there are some jobs that are only given to woman-managed companies. What matters it what you're working on and how it relates to your major. So go for the job that you like better or sounds better or pays better or whatever.

Oh, find out if you'll get a secret clearance working at one or the other. Having a clearance will give you an advantage for future jobs.

From my friends working at LM, it seems great. You can do no work, and they won't fire you, unless there is gross misconduct. They'll just keep transferring you. It's as close as you can get to lifetime employment. And failure means the government is going to throw more money at the project. It's never your fault, it's always the gubments fault for not throwing enough money at the project :) I believe they have guaranteed raises too. Of course if you want to be creative and do work, you can, but the beaty is that you don't have to. :D
Recap: work optional, raises guaranteed.

well the secret clearance can be had at both places. I think 95% of the employee at my current internship has some sort of clearance... I don't. BUt i think i am gonna try and get the internship at lockheed and see what happens.

Lockheed will get you a clearance, I'm 100% positive. But right now, secret clearance is gonna take about a year or more to get processed.... DSS is really backed up right now
