What would you have done if you were the coach.

His make-a-wish was to meet president bush? Me thinks the parents used their cancer baby to meet the president.

I would have done the same as the coach after hearing that.

Wow, talk about an unsubstantiated claim. You have any evidence to support your post?

My first instinct is to say I would have done the same thing. Those kids want to win, that is why they are out there and if they don't want to win they shouldn't be out there.

After thinking about it, if I were the coach AND I KNEW the kids situation, I might call a timeout and pull my whole team together and explain it to them and let them decide what I did.

On even another hand, what if the cancer kid would have hit a homer!!!!!

Now that would have been something!

BTW, I like this kid's attitude from the last sentence in the story.

Definitly would have walked him. If you don't walk him then the cancer kid may not have a chance to bat.

The kid probably already had a chance to bat earlier in the game. Participation is what's most important in that league.

So you punish a whole team to keep one kid from feeling bad? The walk was the right play and I would have made the same call. Too much politically correct feel good BS these days anyway. Kids need to learn how to win and how to succeed. The real world doesn't pull any punches.

Probably he did bat prior, but atleast he got to bat one more time.

Wait! Before you answer.... This is a league where everybody gets to bat, there's a four-runs-per-inning max
Read the article next time.

I would have pitched to the guy before him. I can understand teaching kids about fairness and all, but they also need to be taught not to pick on others. And that is exactly what they did.
Nobody would have had a problem hardly at all if the opposing coach elected to pitch to the better batter and he smacked it out of the park. Especially not like the stink this has caused.

Bottom line: Is is just little league. It is for fun and sportsmanship. This was neither.
Those kids that won didn't learn and weren't taught a damn thing, other than their coach wanted a trophy bad enough to do something distasteful to get it.

I don't know if these questions were answered in the other thread because I can't ****** find it, but...

1. Why was such a bad hitter batting after such a good hitter?
2. Why didn't the other coach put a sub in for the bad hitter? Probably because he hadn't played the kid (because he sucked) and he had to get his required at-bat.

If you're gonna put a kid on your team that can't bat expect the other team to take advantage of that.

From the CNN video, the coach didn't know that the next kid was a cancer survivor.

But then again, why should it matter? What if he was dying from cancer? Does that change anything? What about being treated "like all the other kids"?

i can't blame them. i would have walked the best batter myself to get the worst. thats just good couching. while i think its bad i do not think its as bad as they claim.

though i do not believe the guy saying he did not know the kid had problems. he has to wear a helmet while playing outfield and is rather small.

he had to know something was wrong with the kid.

but i agree it shouldnt matter. its a game. you play to win. there are winners and losers. it was a good leason for the kid. if he is the worst player on the team he is going to get picked on by the other team.
