this is a small computer shop right? that big of a mistake would get the guy fired or arrested and might put the shop out of business

i would have stopped him as he was doing it

<< Well assuming that i know he'd have to pay for it, something that would probably ruin his life at this point, i would possibly consider taking it back. But if it was a large store and the salesman would only be fired, i'd keep it. >>

You sir, are an asshole.

Personally, I would of told the guy he was making a mistake b/f i ever walked out of the store. BUT I don't know how the hell that could of actually happened.

<< << I used to go to a certian store where the cashier was always giving me too much change. I always corrected her. One day I thought about it and decided that if the company is not going to train her correctly, it is their own fault. I started to keep the extra change after that >>

Train her correctly??? A company has to train someone to make proper change??? How sad is that statement?!?!? Like didn't we learn how to do that in about 3rd grade or so??? (maybe that's the problem...there was too much time in-between 3rd grade and getting a job as a cashier. ;) )
>>

My wife managed a fast food restaurant (hehe oxymoron) several years ago and probably only 1 out of 8-10 kids could properly give change. I can beat that. The registers had the picture of the food on the keys not the name.

Forgot to add that I would have probably told the noob salesman that the box was full of mem sticks.

If it's a small local store I would have returned the whole thing. But then if its those big stores like CompUSA which sells NICs for 90 dollars, I'd probably keep the whole thing.

But then it probably won't happen if it was a big store.
I wonder what happened to that poor kid.

Take it back, inform his supervisor of what mistakes he's making and that the company is taking significant losses because of it. Return all the hardware; leave with what you intended to pay for in the first place.

once i ordered a hard disk & was sent a carton of 5 (worth a total of over $1000). i returned 4 of them even though the company would have never known. so, i wouldn't have walked out the door with the memory.

I think I would actually return it. I'm not really sure though, maybe if I was in the situation I would keep it, you never know.

I'm with Gregg. The other people involved would be so royally screwed if you didn't.

That's actually the best answer I've heard all day

<< If the store had a proper training program (and hired halfway bright employees) things like that wouldn't happen.. I'd keep it also. >>

One of the things you can always count on around here... if a store makes a mistake in their favor, people scream lawsuit. If the mistake is in the customer's favor, then tough luck for the store. And the stores should always pay more for better employees, except the customers only shop at the place with the lowest prices.

God forbid any of you people ever make a mistake at work.

Ditto. I would have taken it back. I have no use for it, and it's dishonest.

Well, the law looks at customer mistakes very differently than store mistakes. The store is (rightly) held to a higher standard.

Having said that, ComputerGeeks refunded a $318 monitor credit to my VISA account last year AND then sent me a check for $318 two weeks later. I sent it back.

. . . if it was Beast Buy it would be really the only difficult decision for me :) . . . however, it is moot as I will never shop there ever again.
