what would you do?

Lately I've been staying at work until at least 8pm to avoid the horrendous traffic in LA. I don't get paid overtime and it is my decision to stay late anyways, but I feel like I waste so much time just sitting around when I could be at home doing something much more entertaining.

So what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Sit around the office surfing the interweb until 7-8pm. By this time, it only takes me 20 mins to drive home.
Or leave work at 6pm and drive in traffic for at least 1 hour?

I would take the hour drive. But I've never been in (but heard a lot about) LA traffic, and in that case I'd stay safe in the office.

Work my hours?

12am leave South OC
Work in LA 1am-1pm
2pm back in South OC

Do the things you would have done at home anyways, eat, nef, surf net, whatever.

that is just crazy. i bow down to you!!!!1111

Talk to your supervisor if you can shift you start hours to compensate, or go to a 4/10 shift.

work the extra hour or two. I hate sitting in traffic. Plus the extra work means a bigger bonus right?

If you don't feel like working you could always join a gym really close to work and go there right after work.
or maybe do different activities every day that are close to work like: laundry, food shopping, and dance/cooking classes.

Big cities should come up with a new job system that allows for better use of the roads. Where as most of the country is on a "first shift" 8am to 5pm, with some jobs following it with a 2nd shift, and in rare circumstances a 3rd shift.

So instead we'd have first shift broken up into 4 different sub shifts.

- 7am to 4pm
- 7:45am to 4:45pm
- 8:30am to 5:30pm
- 9:15am to 6:15pm

The city would work with all of the biggest employers to try and implement these shifts on a per company basis...
