Ok. I have a 2.8E cpu and a asus p4p800 deluxe mobo that is currently running in my rig now. I have an option to change it out and go with a 2600 barton and a different mobo. I dont know which to choose. I have 1 gig of pc 3500 ddr. So mem aint a big deal. Which would you choose?

imo the p4s are better than the athlon xps, if you want more performance, you should be able to hit at least 3.2 from that p4 surely, since that asus board is a good overclocker.

in your position, the only cpu id upgrade a p4 2.8+ from is athlon64

The 2.8E is much faster than an XP 2600+, it's roughly equivalent to an XP 3200+.

With A64 it flips around again, with an A64 2800+ matching a P4 3.0E or even 3.2E.
