I haven't had any bosses for nearly a month now and I only have ONE co-worker in the lab I work at. She is going to leave 3 hours early today... This leaves me alone, I could just leave... what would you do?

No, no work that NEEDS to be done. I'm paid hourly... We get paid for 40 hour/week and no more even though we work on weekends. As for timecards... we take turns filling each other's out, we always fill out that we worked 40 hours.

Are you interning or something ? If so... I'd stay... there are spies amongst the other workers...

pretty poor work ethic ;)

if you're going to be paid for being there, the least you could do is stay there.

I work overnights (no bosses and usually pretty slow). It pisses me off when my coworkers show up late, leave early, take hour-long food breaks, or sleep at their desks. Like I said, you're being paid to be there. You don't need to work your fingers to the bone or anything, but since you're getting paid, you could at least stay for the hours you're getting paid for.

No work, eh?

Riiight...

You know that one project? The one that nobody wants to do? The one that isn't critical enough to be given priority, but always seems to pop its head up every now and again? Yes, that one...

DO IT!!!

Sure, it may be tedious, but it's not like you have anything better to do. Besides, you might get some browny points from the higher ups whenever they come back. And all your co-workers will be glad the annoyance is gone.

(God, I am such a hypocrite... :p )

Heck, I feel bad to leave 5 mins early to avoid some traffic...

My company would let me come in by myself and fabricate whatever kind of time status I wanted at any crazy hour of the night.

That doesent change the fact that its wrong and that I have accepted the responsibility not to.

want a job? :p I hate my coworkers. a few weeks ago, one of them overslept by 4 hours.

that means I was there for 4 hours by myself, dealing with monitoring the network, taking care of down servers, handling in-coming tickets, and it also just so happened that the networking department scheduled a router swap that same night.

I still have bruises on my hands from where I punched the wall in frustration ;) I think he almost got fired from it, though. Since that incident, he's been showing up early, leaving late, and working his tail off. just hoping he doesn't slip back into old habits.
