2K is not worth your sanity. You'll have extra time if you take the new job,I bet right now that you eat a lot of fast food and take out meals because of your long work hours. That's money you'll easily save once your work week is more reasonable.

If you take the 36-hr job, think about it, you'll have 14 hours free you didn't before. You could always get some 10-hr a week part-time job to make up some of the lost $$$, and still be working fewer hours than before.

If you hate your current job that bad, then by all means take the other one. Removing that huge amount of stress will make you feel so much better, you won't really mind the pay cut.

If you feel the new job offers upward mobility, good experience or a better climate than you should probably make the switch. If the new company is a good one you should see a salary bump before too long that will put you back to where you were.

depends....

1. What % is 2K of your current salary... if you are making 18K its going to be a hard hit compared to a current salary of 55K.

2. What is your salary trajectory in each job, i.e., room for advancement?

allright.

2k paycut is about 170 per month less for me. if push comes to shove, farewell car. 🙁

the new job doesn't have as much mobility. BUT i will get a raise in six months, then another in the next six months, and then raises are annually after that. where i am right now DOES NOT have any sort of raise schedule. we TRULY believe here he'd rather fire us and find someone else cheaper than give us a raise. employees are disposable and we can tell if he is sniffing around for something to fire us with. (especially if we haven't done a thing wrong to boot.)

i currently have medical and dental benefits. i would lose those until i've been at my current job for 90 days. the new place has full medical, dental and vision, all paid for. currently i have all medical and dental paid for, outside of copays when i go to the doctor. each place has a 401k - current place i am eligible now, new place, eligible after a year.

i have thought about getting a part time job, say 14 hours on the weekends or some weeknights, since i do get off at around 5-6ish at the new place, to try to make up some of the income. i was working 7 days a week for a while back in may and that wasn't fun, but then i was working where i am now plus circuit city all day on the weekends. (i don't know if circuit city will take me back because i might just quit again like i did last time. i liked working there though... outside of selling the warranty.)

i need to give her a call back.

From everything you've said about your current job, it sounds like you should take it.
The only reason I would say you should stay is if your current job will help you more in the long run. Then it might be worth sticking it out for awhile. Otherwise, the extra 2k is not worth hating your life.

exactly. The way I figure it your are getting 2000 for 14 hours extra a week 14x52= 728 hours a year extra

2000/728= $2.75 is what you are making in those extra hours at your current job. Seems like a no brainer to me. Take the new job.

so it's not really that you like your potential job, but that you dislike your current job, right?

how do you know you won't end up hating your potential job?

because i won't have people screaming at me over the phone over being overcharged 5 dollars?

or that their item arrived one day too late?

or that they keep calling daily when we say "it takes up to six weeks to ship?"

i like the potential mostly because its new and will NOT drive me as insane as i am now. i don't think any other job in the world that i have right now could possibly do that.

Do you work for a computer disty?

Good luck! I hope you decide on the new job because the amount of stress is not worth the extra $2,000.00. I've been there and done it and you'll be so relieved when you leave that positition. Where you are now is the typical work them for peanuts and hire somebody new when they complain environment. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Go!

pool tables.

anyways i interviewed. went great.

they didn't go with me. 🙁

basically they wanted someone to start tomorrow. i said i could start monday but she REALLY wanted someone TOMORROW. so they gave it to someone who didn't have a job. which i don't mind because now someone isn't unemployed.

but it still makes me sad. 🙁 she said she really liked me too.
