He got it working by contacting Maxtor. I think this is what truly bothers you IMHO.
Actually, I'm bothered by the fact that we made a deal, and through some unforseen circumstances he came way out ahead, and won't even consider any kind of "thank you" to me. The original deal was "it's yours, but it may not work". He technically got it working by getting it RMA'd to Maxtor. That's fine. He DID then agree to that working drive as part of the trade for the 100GB.
and instead of patting him on the back and telling him he got a sweet deal, you try and haggle for the 120.
Actually, if you read what I said, I only asked for the $30 back. I said it would be nice if I could have the 120 but did not demand I get it. I even offered to buy it from him but he refused.
My point is why are you asking for anything back? Why are you even thinking of getting anything back? It's not like you suddenly lost more because maxtor upped his drive. Things looked fair enough when you got your 100 and he got your 80. Suddenly, you still have your 100 and he gets a 120 scot free and things have changed? Do you see where I am coming from? If it's not like that, feel free to say so, but that's what it looks like.
Yes and no. Yes, I was happy with the deal when it was the 80 and 40, because that's what it was, an 80 and 40. Now, it's an 80, 40, and 120 (which he never would have had without this deal). I never said I was "out" anything, but since he now has come out way ahead would it be outrageous for him to say "hey, since I just got basically $120 drive for free, how about I give you the $30 back"? I'm not begrudging him the fact that he got a good deal (from all sides), but if you got a deal like this, wouldn't you at least try to say "thank you"?
