...an original iPhone (8GB).

A buddy of mine is moving out of state and had a garage sale yesterday. One of the things he was selling was this original iPhone. The screen looked to be in bad shape - it was all sticky, and the back was dirty as heck. For fun, I threw it in the pile of other things I was buying (including a sweet iSight). I paid $40 for the whole pile.

I brought it home and cleaned it with a static-free cloth and some TV/monitor cleaner and...

The screen is in perfect condition - the sticky stuff came off to reveal a scratch-free glass and the dirt easily came off the perfect body.

Anyway, I am trying to decide what, if anything, to do with it (my wife and I already have the iPhone 4 and the kids are set, too).

But, rather than tell me what I should do with it, tell me what you would do with it (throw it out or sell it are not available options).

I have one that I let my friend borrow when he went overseas (ended up just paying AT&T for international data on his 4), but what I used it for before that was as a phone at first, and then as a Touch.

I would buy a glass case, put it inside and fix a name tag right next: "first Apple iPhone", and then see if I can obtain an iPhone 3G and 3GS as well...

You never know if a few years later, it will become a collector's item or not. the way I look at it, 10 or so years from now, a perfect iPhone 2G may be worth more than the house it's in.

In our family, we have this Original, 3G, 3GS and 4. We are only missing the 4S from our "collection".

I'd probably just stick it in the closet, or possibly give it to a friend's kid or something. In fact, that's what I'm going to do with our iPhone 3G, once I upgrade. My GF is currently using the 3G but it's very slow, and even too slow to stream my TrendNET IP camera's VGA audio/video stream well using their dedicated MPEG4 streaming app. (It works perfectly on the iPhone 4.) When I upgrade to the 5 or iPhone 5S or whatever I will give her my iPhone 4.

At most I'd use it as a permanent iPod for the car, but then again I already have a 3 different iPods (shuffle, mini, and nano).

Keep it in the bathroom.

I was going to say this. My gf has a 3rd or 4th gen iPod that has been permanently docked in the bathroom for when she showers or is getting ready. I don't know if your wife takes as long as my gf, but if she takes even half as long, it will get a lot of use.
