What would you do with $20,000?

If you had to spend it on something other than hookers and blow and couldn't put it away for retirement or pay down debt

I would probably use it for a trip to Antarctica, some new furniture and some more landscaping in the backyard. Fund more trips if there is anything left after that

Give it to my daughter for school. If you're talking fun money only, maybe buy an old car.

Trip to Bora Bora, Tahiti, and Maldives with my wife.

2nd option would be to put a bar in my HT and change the flooring on my main floor to hardwood.

I would invest the entire sum in a well-balanced mix of mutual funds and then use the dividends to buy hookers and blow.

Put it with the 35k from a heloc and buy a house to flip. Keep turning it over as I buy cash flowing rental properties so I can move to the country in 10 - 15 years and relax.

Tree removal of dying trees around the house and then at least a good start on a roof and updated patio area on the backside of my house.

Trade in time for a new car, probably. That new Mustang is pretty awesome.

The money saved on car payments can then go to hookers and blow.

I'd buy cheap labor and whatever materials I need to finish my building projects and be done with it.... As it stands now, I have kids and little free time and money to work on the projects. All I need is drywall and insulation and inspections at this point. I don't have a lot liquid now because I'm being aggressive with my mortgage, have car payments and 2 kids in daycare... I figure I'll be set in a few years, but wish I had $20k to close the book on some of that stuff that I can't finance...

If you already have debt and the sum isn't large enough to eliminate them then I'd invest 100% of it into a retirement account which is protected and file for bankruptcy to eliminate my debt provided that I didn't own anything of value that the court could take away from me.

I'd plan to donate a respectable portion of it, and then when it arrives, save it all instead with the intention of donating a selfless portion of my next bounty, since $20k no longer seems like enough to donate anything from.

I would buy some beer.
If I have any money left after that, I would use it on a down payment on a second home, ideally something within 4ish hours drive, waterfront on lake michigan.

Removing H&B from the running is really limiting my options.

Don't need car. Don't need stuff. I'd probably put $20K towards housing situation, but I'm getting that the OP hates for me to have a place to live.

I guess travel. Like small island in the Pacific or off the coast of Africa sort of stuff...
