Well, I just walked the stage on Saturday so my undergrad years are officially over. I received a BBA in MIS with a minor in Psychology. I haven't had a whole lot of time to do any serious job hunting, but I have had a few interviews with a company in Houston. I feel relatively certain they will offer me a job, though it will only be for about $25k per year. I will be doing Network Monitoring initially, then move into different sectors of the company. For the first 6 months I would work the graveyard shift, for the second 6 six months I would work the evening shift, and finally after a year I would move into the day shift.

So my question is, would you take the job or move back home for the summer and continue to look for other prospects. I know there are many people having trouble finding jobs, which is about the only reason I am considering taking it. To me, the pay seems low and the hours would suck, but at the same time, it is a job.

<edit>To the suggestions of taking the job and leaving when something new arises, how bad does that look on a resume. If I were able to find a job in say three months and left the company would that make me look like a "flaky" employee?</edit>

<edit2>Ugh. . Just got the job offer. Its for only $24k. I asked a couple questions about the weekend shifts. The recruiter is checking and will call me back. How much time should I ask for to consider the offer? Is there any way to get them to offer a signing bonus or pay for moving expenses? Some quick input about the signing bonus would be nice </edit2>

I wouldn't take it...nothing seems good about it, low pay and bad hours doesn't seem too interesting...I would just wait and look for another job to come around

I'd probably say take it and at least get the experience to add it to a resume for future jobs.

In this market, get your feet wet anyway possible. My first job out of college (accounting/HR) paid $7.69/hour. 9 years later, I work for a Fortune 200 company and make about 6 digits after bonus. Go for it.

Wow that's totally not worth it, I'm still in high school and I already make that much. If you go to college you might as well get a good job with the education you have.

If it provides you with the experience and contacts to help you make 6 figures down the road then it is totally worth it.

Nah, if you can get a better job now, making more money and still getting experience then you should go for that, not settle for something that makes it hard to survive in the world. If he gets a better job and still the experience then odds are he gets even better at what he is doing and gets to those 6 digits faster.

EDIT : that to then

Its only 2 hours from home, get it and if nothing else bail if you find something better. This is of course assuming it will pay your basic cost of living there which I guess it would. Besides you might decide you really like the night shift, I do :D

some places will pay high schools 8 bucks an hour. but if you stay there, thinking you'll go up and never go to college, your possibilities for advancement are limited.

True, and I never expected to stay here, I plan on going to college I was just saying going through your whole college education, and when you graduate only getting $7.69 per hour, it doesn't seem worth it

for IT people the current job market is the suck. i'd say take anything you can and use the day time to interview for a better job while gaining valuable experience in the meantime. that experience will be what differentiates you from the other candidates who are just out of school.

How does someone make "about 6 digits"? You make roughly $100,000-999,999/year?
