Hello,

I work in retail and I will be getting a deal from intel soon but I am not sure if I want to take advantage of it.

The deal from intel is:

* Intel® Core? 2 Duo Processor E6300
* Intel® Desktop Board DG965WH
* Microsoft* Windows Vista* Ultimate

All for the low, low price of $220!

Since my current system is old I am going to have to buy a new video card, DDR2 ram, and a new power supply.

If I go with the conroe build from the intel deal I will have to buy 1.8v ram which is about 265 dollars. The ram I was looking at is this:

GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $265
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820144021

PSU:

OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817341002

Video Card

ATI 100-435805 Radeon X1900XTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 $240 From Another Retail deal.

This is a good build but Im wondering if im just better off getting what I really would want.

I would get the same video card and psu. But i would get this cpu and motherboard and ram.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz $320
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) $230
Combo deal from newegg $525
Ram:
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145590 $299
Rough Total w/o video and psu if i go with asus $824

Total with Intel deal $485

So my main questions are:

Would the price be worth the performance gain with the asus board and e6600?
Is DDR2 800mhz memory worth the price? Or is 667 fast enough?

Mostly I just need some guidence..

The price difference is mostly around $350 between the asus setup verses the intel setup.

I dont really care about vista.

You can always do the Intel deal, then sell the stuff on and make some money.

I LOLed @ your PSU selection. Why not just go all out and buy a 1KW PSU?

Hey
I'm in the same position as you. What I am thinking of doing is just using the combo as it comes. I will just buy good ram. Then hopefully in a few months, there will be many more choices in mobo and prices will have come down enough. I will then buy a decent mobo and OC as much as I can. Definitely selling Vista on ebay though. Dont plan on using if till atleast 6 months after release.

well ill be getting mine too.

i think im going to sell the motherboard, and get a gigabyte one. ive already got 667 ram and a 7900gt. im turning my old computer into an HTPC.

i would say definitely get it. vista ultimate alone is worth it.

in other news, if anyone is interested in a Intel® Desktop Board DG965WH, let me know, cause ill have one, and ill want to get rid of it :)
