What would you do if you were in MY shoes?

Ok, here's the story..

I purchased a Car (Citroen CX) 12 months ago to restore to good condition. Since I have only JUST finished YR 12 (End of senior secondory schooling in Australia), I like to go out and socialize etc, have fun blah blah blah..

Anyway, Although I've had my Learner's permit for ONLY 18 months (hahaha - I could have had my Provisional licence afer 6 months), and I really want my Provisional licence so I can at least say that I've got them and drive my brother's car around for the time being to get to places without driving with daddy..

BUT, since I've got this "car" that needs work on; whenever I say I am going to go to a party or basically have fun, my dad always chucks a $hit on how I haven't worked on my car and craps on and on and on!! Not to say the least that he sits on his backside doing nothing all day - and not even bothering to teach me to drive.

I have no real incentive to work on my car, since I know it's still going to be ages before I get my licence. So there's no point having a car, and no licence. At least if I did get my licence, I'd be eager to finish the car to go driving around in.

What my question is, is from the facts above - What would you do if you were in my position?
If you need more info, I'd be only too happy to help :)

Thanks

Rod

Only problem with getting my brother to teach me is that he's hardly ever here - but has taught me now and again.

Good suggestion though, so thanks

Work on your car dude. When you finally do get your license you are going to wish the car was done. Nothing is more rewarding than fixing up an old car. I have been doing it for over 20 years and it all started when I bought my first 1966 Mustang when I was 16. I drove off to college in a %100 fully restored Mustang that drew attention where ever I went. I have been building cars ever since. Just dig in and learn how to work on cars by tinkering, that's how I started, and now I can do absolutely anything a car requires to be fixed up. This weekend I will be putting a quarter panel on a friends Mustang. I still enjoy thisw stuff after 22 years. Get of ytour ass and get started.....you won't be sorry.

Thanks Wyst for that funny comment :)

Thanks Ronstang for the suggestion, as it is a good one.
The only problem I face is if I'm not in the mood to work on it, or i'm too lethargic from a big night out - then I still land in $hit because it's like I'm expected to work on it every free second that's available.
Sometimes I'm in a great mood to start working on it, and that's what I love to do, is see what I've been working on to proceed in it's progress.

Keep the suggestions coming

Thanks

Party less, work more. . . welcome to life! Seriously though quit making excuses for why you can't for two reasons.
1.) Old crappy cars that you're gonna "fix up" look ugly just sitting there, not to mention they tend to deteriorate more.
2.) You're gonna get your license and be able to drive the car and find its gonna' take you alot more time to finish it than you thought and you'll wish you started earlier.

Thanks Soybomb for your interest.

I now understand what my position is now with regards to finishing the car off. No doubts if I do keep on making excuses, I'll regret it later when the car has rusted heaps and has set me 3 months behind in finishing it off.

Thankyou for your honest reply - as direct answers get me thinking :)

Hey Rod. Where ya live? I'm in Freo.

You need to get someone who's had at least 4 years experience. Just tell your dad straight. Go down to some deserted carpark and practice.
