monitor?

I am thinking that I should upgrade my monitor at home sometime in the next couple of months.

What would you recommend?

Space is limited...I could fit a 17" but probably a little tight with a 19". I will want to stay under $350 or so...

if you're going to do the upgrade, go flat panel. I picked up a Viewsonic vg150 (15'') for $307 after rebate back in july. Ask any Ferengi or just go to the Hot Deals forum and you'll see deals.

yeah, flat panel sounds nice.... maybe in a couple of months the 17" flat panel will be cheap enough for my tightwad self.

Keep in mind, that a 15'' Flat is the same screen size as a 17'' CRT. Of course, now that I have a 19'' CRT at work, I want a 17'' Flat for at home. One of those nice sony's or something. *drool*

A 17" LCD for $350? I'd like to see that.

In the mean time I'd go with a quality 17" CRT since space and your budget are tight.

I highly recommend the Samsung SyncMaster 753DF for under $170 from Dell.com after coupon(s). Find something to pad your order up to $200 and you can use a $25 off coupon plus a 10% off coupon.

I finally replaced my 15" with a NEC FE950+ - 19" flat CRT, 1792x1344 @ 66 Hz. $320 shipped after rebate.

The difference is amazing, I regret putting it off so long.

<< For $350, you could easily get a 19" monitor...almost 2 if you get a really hot deal :) >>

Exactly the logic I used when I decided to get my NEC vs a 17" LCD.

Simply not cost effective right now. For just a little over $600 I can have mid to high end CRT's or one 17" LCD.

I opted for the CRT, & haven't regretted it.

I have a feeling when my 128 MB GF3 arrives today I'll be not regretting it even more.

1600x1200x32 just because I can.

Man, upgrading from 15" to 19" was a godsend when I did it two years ago. Been running 1600X1200X32 ever since. I'll stick with the 19" until LCD prices get a little more reasonable.

1600x1200 is a little small for me on my 19 (I have sh!tty vision, so I guess it's not surprising). I've been running 1280x960x32 for Windows, but I plan on playing games at 1600. I would really like to try 1400x1050 as well, but I haven't been able to get it to work on my G450. Hopefully the GF3 will solve that.
