What would you do if you caught your neighbor physically/verbally abusing their spouse?

I'd call the cops and probably try to seperate them if I thought one was going to injure the other.

Good point. I'd use the chainsaw on a woman. Make it quick and painless and all that.

Tell the b1tch she deserved it and to quit crying unless she wanted me to give her something to really cry about.

Nah, seriously....call cops and then assist the girl if she's in any danger. Ususally guys beating women are cowards, unless it's seriously a case of self defense, so I'm sure just the presence of another guy is enough to get them to back down and tuck their balls between their legs.

Now if he's drunk, that's another story....I've been in a situation like that and he didn't back down. He had that "Superman effect" going on......but my name was Kryptonite!

All of my 2x4's have nails in one end from the last riot. Should I use these?

Absolutely nothing. Well, that's not true. I'd walk on by, doing whatever it was that I was doing, and give them a wave and a "have a nice day." I'm a nice person.

"Verbal abuse" isn't anything. A lot of people yell things at each other; I wouldn't get involved.

Physical, I'm not sure. I guess reporting it to the police probably wouldn't accomplish a whole lot since the woman probably wouldn't press charges and might get beaten for the intrusion. OTOH, it'd be unethical not to... I guess I would. And I'd make sure they knew I'd be willing to testify about what I saw.

Of course, the whole situation is nearly impossible -- my neighbors on one side are in their 70s and the ones on the other side are both very mild-mannered -- the husband is a biology professor.

Even if it was one-sided? Also, repeatedly telling someone to kill themselves because they are a waste or that they are stupid because they can't do anything right can't be good for the psychy.

People say all kinds of things when in an argument etc.

It?s only words. People might seem more offensive only because they are trying to drive home their point.

If either of the two parties raised the pimp hand, that would be a different story altogether.

I suppose in that case I'd refer the "victim" to one of the hundreds of abuse-counseling services after the aggressor had left.

But, honestly, I have a hard time sympathizing with people that won't help themselves (aside from those with major mental defects). I'd do what's expected of a good citizen, but I won't lose sleep over someone being too weak-willed to leave their abusive spouse when they've been given the support necessary to do so.

Problem is that unless you're taping it, verbal abuse is impossible to prove. And not good enough to make a charge on its own.

If it was physical, I'd call the cops. No question. People who beat their spouses are scum and deserve no less. At least with physical abuse the proof is often very apparent and easy to obtain. You just have to convince the victim to stop being stupid and press charges.

I'd do nothing. A guy like that is crazy and I don't want any part of that. Women (the 99% of them) who flock to idiotic, apelike assholes like that and breed with them are causing a lot of the world's problems anyway, let them suffer.
