What would you do for work if you suddenly lost your current skill set?

Let's say all the skills and experience you use in your current job got completely wiped out and you had to start from scratch. You still have the same interests you do now, and you still have all the skill sets and experience that are NOT related to your current job.

What would you do for work and to support yourself?

I think I'd either join law enforcement, the military, or become a truck driver, or go into politics.

I'm an accountant.

That would make for an absolutely great interview question.

Anyway ... I'd have to say something more geared around manual labour, where I'm not sitting behind a desk all day. Photography/wildlife related preferred :)

I hadn't thought of that. Feel free to steal it! But if I get asked that on my phone interview on Monday I will totally know that it's you! :p

Ha! I'm way too low on the totem pole in this job to be interviewing you I'm sure ... regardless, I have made a note of it as I do occasionally get to put in my 2 cents.

I'd try to get into Auto Body repair and/or mechanic.

I actually love what I do (Software development and ERP implementation), but I know I'd love working on cars all day.

My "skill set" is that of troubleshooting and fixing things. It's more of a fundamental ability rather than a precision/specialized skill. I just happen to apply it to the IT world. Losing that would really suck.

Fallback would be probably something like going to radiology school and become an RT.

Assuming current and prior career skill sets go (I've already made one voluntary career change), I'd probably cook or manage in the hospitality industry.
