[edit3] So, I called tivo to see what was up and why I couldn't transfer. Well, it was activated under someone else's name......WITH A LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION!!!!!! So she promptly transferred it to my account. In the mean time, the guy emailed me back, asking what he could do. I said things are so hectic with the holidays, since I was able to activate it, if he'd be willing just to refund shipping ($15) and call it good. He said he'd send me $30. After which I said don't send me anything, and I sent him another $100.

Assuming all works out, I'll have ended up paying $140 for a 60 hour series 2, WITH lifetime sub😀

Bought this Series 2 Tivo. Was looking specifically for the new design, silver w/white face.

Well, it arrived today, and it looks like this (not the actual unit, same model tho).

Because it is still a series 2, it meets half of the need I wanted it to (network capable). But the other "need" was that it match everything else I have. If I wanted black/dk gray, i'd have just kept my current Series 1.

I responded to the seller, stating it came today and thanking him for the prompt shipping. But I also said I was slightly dissapointed that what I got was not the same as what he listed.

Should I even bother doing anything?

[edit] The title even says, "Brand New Never Used! Model# TCD540040". When in fact it is a TCD140060.

[edit2] Figured I'd keep it, and negotiate a partial refund with the seller. So, I start the walkthrough to activate it (online thru manage my account). I enter in the TSN and I get this:

Oops! The TiVo service number you entered has already been activated. If you think you may have entered an incorrect number, please try again or call Customer Support at 1-877-367-8486.

Also, last I checked, a Tivo that "Never hooked it up or taken out of plastic in box" shouldn't have animal fur stuck in/around the rubber feet.

At this point, I think I will pursue a full refund.

If it is not want he claimed it to be, then you should be entitled to a full refund, including shipping.

It you choose to keep it, and just let him give you a partial refund, that is up to you.

🙂

If the color was stated as silver or the description stated it was the exact Tivo unit you were getting I would send it back. However, if it was listed as a series 2 you will be using that one.

BTW... If you have Comcast they have a DVR box that does what Tivo does is what I was told.

Good Luck.

Is there much of a differnce in functionality between those two units?

I'd ask for a full refund anyways since it was not the model you paid for.

like you said, he has the model number in the title. if the box isn't the same model, thats grounds for a full refund + shipping imo

I agree with Karen. Return for full refund, or keep with partial refund.

I try not to bid on listings without a photo of the actual item.

Sent a second email:

Hi again ****. Also, the listing states model #TCD540040 and it's a TCD140060. I'd like to think I'm a reasonable guy, and I'm pretty sure we can agree on an amicable solution for us both. I'm sure you're probably busy with the holidays, so shoot me an email when you can.

Thanks,
Codey

Rick,

Running in to more problems here. Went to activate it and I get the following message:

Oops! The TiVo service number you entered has already been activated. If you think you may have entered an incorrect number, please try again or call Customer Support at 1-877-367-8486.

I've checked and re-entered the TSN several times, and get the same message each time. I was going to keep it despite it being the wrong model, as it still met the need of being networkable (all series 2 can do this). The wrong color was not enough for me to want to return it. But, now as it turns out, not only is it the wrong model, it is also not "brand new never used" as the listing claimed, and in it's current state, I can't even activate it.

At this point, I would like to request a return/refund. Please advise as to the most convenient way to proceed with this.

Thank you,
Codey Fujita

Why did you send more money? It was already in your hands activated and everything, wasn't it?

MrDD appealed to my conscience. Felt I needed to send something.

Although, it may have been in vain, as I'm not getting a picture out of it. The coax cable pass-through is working, as I'm getting cable to my TV. But no Tivo menu or anything.

I considered myself having a conscience, and i would never screw anybody intentionally, or even a store for that matter (Hotdeals seem to be full of this kind of scum)... but he sold you a Tivo claiming it was NEW and never used... obviously it's not, so i would have considered that even.

On hold for Tier 2 Tivo tech support now....since this thing doesn't put out a video signal at all.

May up having to return it to him anyway....

Wow, you are dumb...

Why the hell would you send him another $100?

I wish the people who i sold stuff to were as stupid as you and paid me extra money.

No...you paid $240, instead of the $140

From the auction:

I purchased this TiVo Series 2 Brand new from TiVo. NEVER HOOKED IT UP or taken out of plastic in box.

You are such a tool

Still eligible for the $100 rebate....

And having a conscience doesn't make me a tool.

Now, what DOES count as a tool maneuver, was that I sent the xtra $$ before testing it. However, after talking with Tivo, they said they would most likely swap it out.

Although I think I'm just going to return it at this point. Wasted 1 after noon already 🙁
