None of the above.

But if I had to choose based on what I need, the Acer would be the best bet. I wish it had the Wacom EMR pen input option as it gives another finer input option.

I see. English must not be your native language. I'll note that for future reference, and direct you to your local community college. All colleges will offer English courses, and many are setup specifically for non-native speakers. That should greatly help your future interactions.

Again, refer to my example. I wouldn't take "what would I do" based on the options given to mean, "let me take this opportunity to inject my bias views and give the worst possible answer because of my moronic anti-Apple crusade." But that's just me.

I dont see the ipad as just a consumption device. With a plethora of apps, the possibilities are nearly endless. The thing is essentially a computer without a keyboard. It doesnt run a windows environment but apps will emulate nearly everything you can do in a windows environment.

Anything but Apple. I wouldn't give them a penny of my money, and seeing their logo every time I used the device would piss me off.

This.

I'm agreeing with you far too much today. :hmm:

Tell me this, out of the box, does it recognize your handwriting at 92% accuracy?

I dont have one, so I dont know. Probably not right out of the box..? But I assume there is an app that will do that. I can see someone wanting to use their own handwriting on a tablet but with 92% accuracy that seems like there would be a lot of errors which would make it more trouble than its worth.

Depends on the work that needs to be done. If it's computer work, the laptop. If it can be easily done on a tablet, the iPad.

The Acer can. It is an option in lieu of the on screen keyboard. And if you have decent handwriting skills, all of your input is accepted.

It identifies keyboard strokes with 100% accuracy, why are we introducing handwriting on a tablet?

Having the option is nice? I thought people like options. It also makes off beat accented characters easier to input.

I've actually never tried it. But the old days of Windows tablets left a bad taste in my mouth when it came to handwriting recognition. It's been a long time since then, but I still just don't see how well that would work on a tablet.

interesting. I'm sure there is an ipad "app for that" though. my main reasoning for the ipad *in this scenario* is that all the kids have em, and I have found them to be excellent for tablet computing needs in my limited use.

I'd love to play with the convertible tablet acer thingy. Is that what it is?

Apple products are tough to use when you're used to android UI.

Have fun!

and remember, no porn. The school may check on you once in a while.

In fact, any windows 8 tablet pc has this option. And yes, aftermarket applications do exist for writing but only within the confines of that app. And the quality ranges what you pay for.

See my answer above. Options are good, but options that don't work on a particular platform are just about worthless. Microsoft tablets had that option back in the day (2003?), and it was horrible. I'm sure it is much better now, but it's hard for me to give it another shot. Mostly because I just don't see the point of it. But you're right, if you see a benefit to it, and it actually works well on a particular platform, have at it. Not sure if the iPad supports it out of the box though.

In a teaching environment, I think AirPlay will come in REALLY handy. Have some slides on your iPad? Click the AirPlay button to wirelessly mirror your device to the projector. Super easy. You'll need an AppleTV device, but every teacher could use it when they are in the room.

Sounds like WiDi but needs an Apple TV.

But on the other end, the Acer doesn't have the complete Intel wireless implementation for it.

Well WiDi is Intel's answer to AirPlay. And yes, AirPlay does need an AppleTV to connect to the projector, but WiDi will also need a device to receive the wireless signal and dump it to the projector. AirPlay is also more establish and completely integrated into iOS. Much more polished solution.

And again, anyone else in the classroom with an Apple device will also be able to take advantage of AirPlay.

Actually there's has never been a doubt in my mind that I would choose the iPad. I never thought the question would lead to such a heated debate. :\

As I have already stated I've never had an iPhone or iPad, and never had any intention to buy one, as I'm not a fan of apple, but there's several professional reasons to choose an iPad when you teach 7-9th graders.

-iPhone and iPads is the "standard" platform for most teenagers, even if you don't like it.
-Since it's the most widely spread, it's also the platform with most educational software, and guides of how to use it in your teaching.
-As I'm the teacher responsible for IT I need to be able to guide/help my colleagues on all platforms that are being used, and that is iOS + windows.

So I finally got my iPad, and besides testing some work related problems and setting up a vpn server, I'm pretty underwhelmed by it. What apps should I install to make me appreciate it?

(The only games I like to play on a tablet would be puzzle like games)

Now that you have the iPad and are posting about performance and apps, those things are discussed in All Things Apple and maybe even in Mobile Devices and Gadgets.
