what would you build?

If you were putting a rig together and could put whatever you wanted in it (as far as CPU, MOBO, RAM and Video), what would it be? I am going to be building one in a month and I cant decide.

So far, I am thinking AMD 1.2gig, MSI k7t Pro2, 512mb crucial RAM, and the most Geforce i can afford.

It looks good to me, but if you are going to be building in 1 month, don't ask that question now. In a month there will probably be 1.33 Athlons out, possibly newer mobo revisions, and geforces will be cheaper due to arrival of GF3.

You might want to get at least a KT133A-based mobo or take the DDR route altogether.

Find a motherboard with the 133A chipset. If you're not sure of the difference, a quick search will give you more info than you wanted!

I am interested in taking the DDR route, but not entirely sure what that would entail, and if it the better route...any advice?

I'd get dual P3 Xeons, about a gig of RAM, and about 4 45 gig drives in a RAID array.

maybe by the time you want to build the system, DDR MBs will be out everywhere, and you can use them and 1.33Ghz Tbirds.

get DDR with pc1600 o/ced to pc2100...

if there's still no decent availability of good ddr boards, get a kt133a board...the MSI K7T-Turbo is probably the best bang for the buck - from my retailer anyway - as long as u flash the bios for memory/multiplier tweaking (4-way interleaving, multiplier adjustment under default, which doesn't matter fi u're getting a 1.2ghz athlon anyway)..

couple with at least 256mb cheap pc133 - tho namebrand....512 would be nice for win2k..

video - best bang for the buck is the Kyro II Hercules prophet 4500...
otherwise, the radeon LE is damn cheap and performs well with excellent 2D..
