What would things be like if all the states were independent?

I think of this once in a while. What if all the states in the US were independent, say since the civil war. we'll let all of the canadian provinces and territories be independent too.

Would be really crazy. Some states would be really free, some authoritarian. some states would annex a few other states. I'd imagine there would be some alliances between states, etc. Trade would be really strange, because some places, all you'd have to trade is grain more or less.

You mean kind of like life before we unified the states?

Sort of, but in the year 2005.

****In the Year 2005****

I predict that by the year 2005, we will all live in colonies in distant stars...

It's pretty safe to say that everyone would want to destroy California.

We'd then pass a law that legalizes inbreeding, easing hostilities and causing a mass exodus from the flyover states to California.

California then cuts off from Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona and goes to hang out with Hawaii.

Alaska is invited.

I don't get how California got the rep it has. It's seriously not at all like that.

Yeah it is.

Yeah, I'm guessing you don't live here. I'm willing to bet that only 1 out of every 15 or 20 of my friends smokes pot.

I've lived here 15 years. I've lived in San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles.

The entire state is mad with reefer, right up to the boardrooms. Don't get me started.

Well, I bet you feel like you're all-knowledgeable, since you've lived in three cities. BFD. California is not like that, plain and simple.
