What would the world be like if Rome didn't destroy the ancient city of Carthage

They wouldn't be different at all. Whether Carthage was destroyed or not, she had been totally crushed and stripped of her influence in both mercantile and military affairs. Her entire empire had already been taken over by the Romans, and she was now prey to even the barbarian tribes of North Africa, which surrounded her on all sides except the seaward. Even as they were destroying Carthage, other Roman armies were doing the same to Macedonia & Greece (Carthage's main rivals before Rome came along). So there was just no chance of recovery after the 3rd Punic War. Within a century, Rome owned the entire Mediterranean world and half of Europe to boot. The Romans eventually rebuilt Carthage anyway, but it would never have regained anything like its former stature in any case.

A better question would be: what would the world be like had Carthage WON the Punic Wars? Now that would have affected history in a big way. ;)

By destoyed I wasn't refering simply to physical destruction... But say they both figured out a way to economically co-exist or something like that...
