Seen this one posted now for a while, get a chuckle out of it each time.

Must be experienced with Networking, LAN/WAN, Cabling and Termination, PC Support and Maintenance, A+ or Network + certification is desired. Position also requires a general working knowledge of Windows XP/2003 server, Linux, Cisco Router, Cisco Switch Wireless Network design server administration, T1, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, web design and development, Q Mail, Email administration, TCP/IP, IP addressing and subnetting. Starting Salary is $30k. Company offers excellent benefit package.

No wonder it's never been filled.

eh 30k isn't too bad, I'm looking at a similar job that starts at ~30k and after 6 months bumps up to ~45k as long as I'm not a failure. Its a govt job tho, and it's 'temporary' which means they have 2.5 years to decided if they want to keep me as full time or not.

Also note the difference between "Must be experienced with..." and "Position also requires a general working knowledge of..."

Yeah, I hate inflated job requirements. You know they'll end up taking someone that doesn't have all that. I think they're just trying to damage people's self worth so they'll take less money.

If you're single and not a complete putz with $ and lack large amounts of debt you could survive on that salary here in middle America.

That's about what I made working in the DFW area. I had a decent 1BR apartment in a non-ghetto area and was able to save some $ too.

That job posting isn't very detailed...so it's hard to figure out exactly what the position will involve. I find that it contradicts itself - A+/Net+ desired, but they also want a "working knowledge" of Cisco Routers/Switches and WiFi design. What exactly do they mean by "working knowledge"...do they want someone that knows IOS or do they want someone that can look at the switch and see that there are no link lights on a given port? How many Windows Server or Linux admins are also involved with a lot of Web Design and Development?

It sounds like this is for a small organization looking for an IT Generalist. Depending on the depth of work involved, and exactly how excellent the benefit package is, I could see that position starting at anywhere from 35-50k here.

Sounds like a junior level IT support position. Sounds about right salary wise. They are reaching a bit with their "general working knowlege" requirements though.

Around here probably 60-70k. Basically a junior support person as mentioned. A jack of all skills, master of none.

This is probably right.

It really does contradict itself... They ask for a NET+ then go on about working knowledge and T1's and shit?

Assuming its very trace amounts of all of that, then 40K?

Where are you located? 65K/yr for someone who has a NET+?

I'm assuming this person doesn't really do any IOS config... maybe some show commands...

Sounds like everything that is covered in my sys admin tech school program. For someone just out of school with a 2 year degree, 30K is pretty good for the midwest.

Looks to be client side, possible on call dude. "entry level" is 50k here. That being said I don't make much more than that and am netgod. I would rather work than not. Always looking :)

The skills there sound like the basic stuff we learned in my high school's Cisco certification classes. So, judging by that, I'm not surprised the salary is low.

Agreed. They're probably throwing a pile of stuff out there and then will see what kind of candidates they get.
